I know a movie is great when I walk out of it and I have butterflies from how awesome it was. However, The Dark Knight was so incredible that I had sustained butterflies throughout the movie during my second viewing in three days. Take my previous blog about my top ten favorite movies of all time and add this one to it, because this movie definitly deserves the position.
The plot is smart and complex and keeps you entertained at all times, but forces you to emphasize with most characters. The action scenes are well done and many cool knew gadgets were introduced (As expected). Although this movie was quite long, (about 2 and a half hours) the time pretty much flew by and I was praying it would go on for longer when it started winding down.
The real story of this movie was the acting performance by the late Heath Ledger. I won’t lie, when I first heard that Ledger would be playing the Joker, I was skeptical and even a little disappointed. He dominated the role. They say that his obsession with the dark, twisted, Joker character may have lead to his death by accidental overdose, and after seeing how well he went into character, I can see how that is possible. There was no part of the Joker in this movie that was Heath Ledger in any way. People were scared he would not live up to Jack Nicolson’s Joker, but Heath left him in the dust.
Overall, The Dark Knight is my favorite movie of 2008 so far, and possible my favorite movie of all time. I urge everyone who has not seen it yet to see it right away, because this movie is too good to miss.

I agree, it was very good. Not one of my favorites, but very well done.
It does however, remind me that this was Heath Ledger’s last movie.
He was phenomenal.
I agree also. I’m not a big batman person, and never seen a batman movie but to be blank honest I saw it because of Heath Ledger. I agree that it does remind you of his last movie. When he passed away I was really sad because I was looking forward to his future movies. I think that this was one of his best movies he had done. One thing that bothered by this movie that it was too long, I can’t sit for almost 3 hours! lol.
I don’t think that ledger’s character as the joker lead to his death. Has I heard he had the flu and on top of that he had a severe case of ammonia while filming the dark knight. He probably just mixed the wrong prescription drugs. It was an accident. But, definetly his character didn’t lead to his death.
I agree, this was also my favorite movie so far for 2008. And if you didn’t see it already, you must! It’s a amazing.
I’m sorry typo! he had Pneumonia.
I agree, i was dragged to see the movie by my cousin because i had my doubts, but once i saw it i was glad she had taken me. The movie was unlike others, it was intense and when it got out i was swept away. Unlike most superhero movies Batman was in a realistic sense, that made it more thrilling. In some parts i was caught off gaurd, and Heath Ledger’s performance was outstanding. If no one told me he played the part, it would be hard to tell that he did. He made the joker thrilling with twisted humor. The movie was altogether outstanding.
Shelby is 100% right. Heath Ledger was so amazing that you couldn’t tell that it was actually him. Good point!
I have not watched the movie yet because I have no one that will go with me to see it. But will definitely see on DVD when it comes out. But I commented this to reply to one of the comments. The Dark Knight was technically not Heath’s last movie. He was working on another one, but I think he passed before it was finished. (Not entirely sure there, but I know he WAS in another movie) So, I suppose it was his last finished movie, but not his last one all together.
By the way, I definitely want to see the movie now from how you wrote this blog. (:
I totally agree! It makes you just shiver to think about how convincing the character was. I had never seen a Batman movie before this one, but now, I am a huge fan! Can’t wait to buy the DVD.
P.S. Great article. You’re a very good, descriptive writer.
I was really thinking about skipping this movie when I heard someone say it was pretty much all action. I have seen enough uninteresting movies with exploding stuff trying to make up for the lack of a story.
But now that I read this, I may give The Dark Knight a chance.
I’ll write about it in my online diary (the publicly accessible part of it), see link, if I like it.
Amazing movie. I saw it twice and I must say I was excited even when I knew what was going to happen! Ledger deserves the posthumous award he may receive. Christian Bale was once again spectacular in his own right. I heard much about Maggie Gyllenhaal, but I thought she played a wonderful Rachel.
Not a bad movie, if you don’t mind heavy handed symbolism. Also, during montage beneath the last voice-over, all I could think of was Christian Bale saying “It’s only a flesh wound!”
Yeah I actually saw this movie for my fourth time this weekend, still great in my eyes. Thanks for all the comments everyone.
