Most sequels are not noteworthy. Usually, they stink. However, some sequels, as in the case of Silence of the Lambs, are awesome. After twenty one years, Lost Boys II has come out. Way overdue in my opinion. The movie starts with a familiar scene, a car on its way to California. In the car are two main characters whom(?) the movie revolves around, Chris and sister Nicole, Tad Hilgenbrink and Autumn Reeser. The other main characters are a nest of surfer daredevil vampires led by Shane, Angus Sutherland, picking up where half brother Kiefer left off as the adorable bad boy. Angus does an amazing job in this role, adding his name to a long line of Sutherland psychos.

The plot is simple, Nicole becomes involved with Shane and he lures her into his world of darkness and blood. Chris teams up with Edgar Frog, played by Corey Feldman. Chris gets into the inner circle with the vampires in order to save his sister and a vampire massacre occurs. In the end, he saves Nicole, but it’s sort of unpredictable, at least it was for me.

As a fan of the original cult classic, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The characters are well developed and the themes in the movie enhance the story, such as the importance of family. My only criticism would have been that perhaps the writers should have strengthened the theme of family. It was a little bit unbelievable, but I mean it is a vampire movie. Also, the theme of living on the edge or carpe diem, as they say, plays really well in this movie. I mean, these guys love danger. They love living on the edge and risking everything. They constantly look for a rush of excitement, for the next thing. These danger junkies have found the ultimate rush. Blood.

Toning down the melodrama, this really was an excellent movie and I’m glad to add it to my list of favorite movies. Autumn Reeser is my new favorite up and coming actress because of her portrayal of Nicole, which is different from her role on The OC. Also, the soundtrack features a remix of Cry Little Sister from the original Lost Boys and some Airbourne too. There’s also some more hardcore songs which are pretty good. I would definately recommend picking it up. It’s well worth the money.
